The Arion Enterprise AI Atlas

The Arion Enterprise AI Atlas is a living map of the enterprise AI market. It places every tool we track on one of two panels by asking a single structural question: is the AI the product, or is it embedded inside one that already existed? Today the map holds 319 products across 44 category cells, each classified against a published method and backed by cited sources.

Most "AI landscapes" are logo collages, snapshots that are out of date the week they ship and give no way to tell a genuinely AI-native product from an incumbent that bolted a copilot onto last year's software. The Atlas is built to answer that question, and to keep answering it as the market moves.

How it works

Every product is tested on five criteria: dependency, architecture, origin, commercial model, and interface. The decisive one is dependency. Strip the models out, and does the product still have a reason to exist? If not, it is Native: the AI is the product. If the underlying platform predates the AI and runs without it, the product is Embedded, placed by the software category it lives inside. A separate agentic level, from 0 to 3, records how autonomously each product acts.

The method is meant to be audited, not admired. Every placement carries its rationale and at least two sources, the classifications are checked for consistency after each update, and the one deliberate edge case is documented in the open. When the market shifts, and it shifts weekly, the map is revised rather than reprinted.

Who's behind it

The Atlas is a research project of Arion Research, a global AI and cloud advisory firm that helps organizations build a human-centric, AI-first strategy that drives performance and earns executive confidence. Arion's coverage spans the digital workforce, agentic and generative AI, and the enterprise applications the Atlas maps, so the landscape doubles as the backbone of the firm's research and advisory work.

It is built and maintained by Michael Fauscette, Arion's founder and chief analyst. Michael led IDC's worldwide enterprise software research for nearly a decade and served as Chief Research Officer at G2, so the Atlas carries a career spent bringing structure to noisy software markets.
